Over 1 in 10 'have caused accidental damage to their kitchen'

Over one in ten people have caused accidental damage to their kitchen by attempting to copy difficult cooking techniques from TV shows, according to new research.

The study by esure, which highlights the important of having adequate home insurance, found that 77 per cent of people have caused damage to work surfaces by attempting to chop items quickly.

Over 35 per cent of homes have also suffered water marks on walls due to steaming, while tenderising meat was responsible for chipping and cracking surfaces.

Commenting on the research, esure's head of home insurance Mike Pickard said: "The kitchen is one of the most dangerous rooms in a house - but adding a budding home cook and a technical recipe can make the likelihood of having an accident soar.

"Having ample buildings and contents insurance plus accidental damage cover, to foot the bill of any kitchen mishaps, is definitely worthwhile."

Previous research by esure found that around nine out of ten adults in the UK would not consider buying a property that has previously been flooded.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18565786-ADNFCR
